Well perhaps a not too well known rumour that I read recently is that at the end of the second world war, when Burma was negotiating independence, the british actually considered bringing back a monarchy. The prince of Pyinmana ( a relative of Thibaw) was a possible candidate. What an irony since Naypyidaw is built right near Pyinmana!
